Constructing a syllabus is an important component of the course design process. The following materials reflect a research-supported framework to help create a pathway to success in your course. Each semester, Innovative Learning reviews the syllabus framework, identifying needed updates and resources.
The Word files linked below outline Required and Recommended components for your syllabus. Many of these components are already in your Brightspace shell. They just need updates specific to your course. The files below include language that comes directly from University policies or is suggested by the University Senate or specific units. Other demo language reflects an autonomy-supportive classroom that can influence student perception and performance (Young-Jones, Levesque, Fursa & McCain 2019). Italicized text indicates notes to instructors. Plain text provides examples of language.
Tips for creating your syllabus:
Don’t revise what you don’t have to. The University Policies and Statements and Student Services widget in the Brightspace shell are updated each semester and automatically populated. You may add additional resources that might help your students to your syllabus.
Once your syllabus is complete, please also upload it to Purdue’s Course Insights syllabus archiving system. For questions related to the syllabus framework, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note: The Purdue syllabus guidelines are influenced by Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation (IMPACT) and the resources available through Purdue’s Brightspace learning management system (LMS). It also addresses criteria of the valid and reliable syllabus rubric published by the University of Virginia Center for Teaching Excellence (Palmer, Bach & Streifer 2017). Components fall under five categories: 1) Essential course information, instructor contact information, and course description, 2) Specific, student-centered learning outcomes and objectives that are clear, articulated and measurable (Bristol et al 2019), 3) Assessment strategies for all graded assignments that make explicit connections between learning outcomes, activities, and content, 4) Pedagogical approaches and activities that help students achieve the course outcomes and objectives, and 5) Policies and approaches that foster engaging, student-centered learning environments.

The University of North Georgia welcomes diversity, free speech, and the free exchange of ideas. Discussion should be held in an environment characterized by openness, tolerance of differences, and civility. The values of an intellectual community are trust, honesty, free inquiry, open debate, respect for diversity, and respect for others’ convictions. Further, the intellectual community always seeks to foster the virtues and characteristics of intelligence, curiosity, discipline, creativity, integrity, clear expression, and the desire to learn from others. It is these that must guide our work and exchanges in this class. These principles are delineated further in the ACE Statement on Academic Rights and Responsibilities.
If these values and principles are breached, students have the right and responsibility to discuss their concerns with the course instructor and, as needed, the department head. Usually, the concerns are addressed at this level, but sometimes the department head may refer students to another resource. In the event that either the student or the instructor is not satisfied after discussion with each other, he/she may take his/her concerns in writing to the Associate Provost for Academic Administration.
Student Code of Conduct and Honor Code
The Dean of Students has outlined a Student Code of Conduct, which includes the Honor Code. The Honor Code at the university is: A student will not lie, cheat, steal, plagiarize, evade the truth, conspire to deceive, or tolerate those who do. As described in the UNG Student Honor Code video, the Honor Code is a statement of how we act as a community. This is a philosophic ideal and helps us live out the University's core values. The Honor Code should guide individual behavior and remind each person of the expectations within the community.

Refer to your campus Academic Advising Center for the development of strategies that will enhance your academic success. You will be expected to take advantage of advising and other campus resources to achieve your academic goals.
Class evaluations at UNG are conducted online. Evaluation of the class is considered a component of the course and students will not be permitted to access their course grade until the evaluation has been completed. The evaluations will be accessible beginning one week prior to Final exam week.
CR – Credit (for Military experience)
I (Incomplete grades) - This grade indicates that a student was doing satisfactory work but, for non-academic reasons beyond her/his control, was unable to meet the full requirements of the course. For undergraduate programs, if an I is not satisfactorily removed after one semester (excluding summer), the symbol of I will be changed to the grade of F by the appropriate official. For graduate programs, if an I is not satisfactorily removed after two semesters (excluding summer), the symbol of I will be changed to the grade of F by the appropriate official. Under special circumstances, this period of time can be increased with the approval of the department head and the dean.
IP (In Progress) - This grade is appropriate for thesis hours, project courses, and Learning Support (LS) courses. It is not appropriate for traditional credit courses. If an IP grade isn't satisfactorily removed after 3 semesters, the symbol of IP will be changed to the grade of F by the appropriate official. Under special circumstances, this period of time can be increased with the approval of the dean. However, students who receive a grade of IP in a LS course or an ESL will retain this grade due to the nature of the course.
K - Student was given credit for the course via a credit by examination program
MW – Withdrawal for military exigencies
NR - The grade was not reported by the instructor
S - Student completed the course with satisfactory work
U - Student did not complete the course with satisfactory work
V - The student was given permission to audit the course. Students may not transfer from audit to credit status or vice versa. If an audit student withdraws from a course prior to the end of the term, a grade of W will be assigned as the course grade rather than a grade of V. Any audit student who is dropped by the instructor for excessive absences will be assigned a grade of W.
W or WF - The student was permitted to withdraw without penalty. Students may withdraw from courses prior to the midterm and receive a grade of W. However, instructors have the ability to change a grade of W to WF if the student is failing the course at the time of withdrawal. According to policy, the instructor must include the right to retain this ability in the course syllabus. Withdrawals without penalty will not be permitted after the midpoint of the total grading period except in cases of hardship as determined by the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs or his/her designee.
Students are considered active (eligible to register) if they enroll in both Fall and Spring semesters each year. Failure to do so requires a student to complete a re-enrollment form in Admissions. Summer semester enrollment is not required for active student status.
Students may only attempt a course three times at UNG regardless of whether a “W” or a grade was assigned to the course (except for Learning Support and ESL courses).
The Registrar’s Office will withdraw (W grade on transcript) students whose names are marked as non-attending by faculty during the Roll/Attendance Verification periods.
The University of North Georgia is committed to equal access to its programs, services, and activities, and welcomes otherwise qualified students with disabilities. (Disabilities include but are not limited to: learning barriers, medical concerns, or mobility concerns). A language model is a type of artificial intelligence model that is trained on a large corpus of text to generate or predict text. It can be used to generate new text, such as in machine translation, or to predict the likelihood of a sequence of words. It uses natural language processing and machine learning techniques to learn the structure and patterns of the language.
Here are 10 ways blockchain developers can use ChatGPT to Improve their work:
Smart contract development
ChatGPT can be used to generate smart contract code by inputting the desired parameters and conditions, saving developers time and reducing the risk of errors. In addition, it can generate natural language explanations of the contract’s logic and functionality and provide examples of how the contract could be used in various scenarios.
Moreover, ChatGPT can generate demo code snippets that can be used to implement the contract’s logic. This can help developers better understand the contract’s requirements and can serve as a starting point for the actual implementation.
ChatGPT can also be used to generate detailed documentation for smart contract code. This can include descriptions of functions, classes and variables, as well as examples of how to use the code. A function is a “chunk” of code that programmers may reuse repeatedly rather than having to write it out several times.
When creating several instances of a certain data type, a programmer can reuse information about that data type by arranging it into a class. A variable is a value that is subject to change based on external factors or data given to the program.
Additionally, ChatGPT can generate documentation templates and integrate with code comments to make the process of documenting the code more efficient. This can be particularly useful for projects with multiple developers, as it ensures that everyone is on the same page and can easily understand the codebase.
ChatGPT can be used to help manage and engage with the community of a blockchain project. ChatGPT can assist with community management by providing automated responses to frequently asked questions, moderating conversations to ensure they stay on Topic and follow community guidelines, and generating content such as blog posts or social media updates to engage and inform the community.
ChatGPT can be used to analyze market trends and conditions for a particular blockchain project or the industry as a whole. This can help developers make informed decisions about their project’s direction and future developments. For example, it can be trained on historical market data and used to generate predictions about future market trends.
Furthermore, it can also be used to analyze large amounts of unstructured data, such as news articles or social media posts, to identify sentiment and opinions about specific companies or products. Additionally, it can be used to generate natural language reports and summaries of market data, making it easier for analysts to understand and communicate their findings.
ChatGPT can be used to develop and test blockchain wallets. For example, it can be used to generate natural language explanations of wallet features and functionality for user interfaces. Additionally, it can be used to generate test cases and test data for wallet software to ensure that it is functioning correctly. Finally, ChatGPT can be used to generate responses to user queries and support requests, providing a more natural and efficient way for users to interact with their wallets.
Blockchain developers can use ChatGPT for simulation in the following ways:
Network simulation: Developers can use ChatGPT to simulate different scenarios on a blockchain network, such as testing the performance of the network under different conditions or simulating different types of attacks to see how the network would respond.
User simulation: Similarly, they can use ChatGPT to simulate the behavior of different types of users on a blockchain network, helping them understand how the network would be used in practice.
Market simulation: Developers can use ChatGPT to simulate the market conditions and predict the price of the blockchain assets to help them make decisions about buying or selling.
Economic simulation: Blockchain developers can use ChatGPT to simulate the economic incentives and disincentives of different actors on a blockchain network, helping them understand how the network would function in terms of tokens and crypto economics.
ChatGPT is a language model, and its application is limited to text-based systems. Developing a decentralized application (DApp) using ChatGPT can be done in various ways, as explained below:
One way is to generate smart contract code for various blockchains. This can help to automate the process of creating smart contracts, making it easier for developers to deploy DApps on the blockchain.
Another way is using GPT-3 to generate UI/UX content that can be integrated into a decentralized application. This can help to make the DApp more user-friendly and engaging for users.
Additionally, ChatGPT can be used to generate natural language prompts and responses for chatbot functionality within a DApp, allowing users to interact with the decentralized application using natural language.
ChatGPT can be used by blockchain developers to create explainer videos by providing natural language text that can be used as the script for videos. Additionally, ChatGPT can be used to generate subtitles for videos, making it more accessible for non-native speakers or for people who are hearing-impaired.
However, the text generated by ChatGPT needs to be edited and refined by the developers to ensure that it accurately and effectively explains the concepts and features of their blockchain project.
White paper development
White paper development using ChatGPT can be done by fine-tuning the model on a data set of existing white papers or by providing it with specific prompts and guidelines to generate text. The process would involve training the model on a data set of relevant information, such as industry terms and technical details, and then using it to generate text that adheres to a specific format and tone. Additionally, providing the model with information about the intended audience and purpose of the white paper can help ensure that it generates content that is tailored to those factors.
Bug detection and fixing
ChatGPT can be used to detect and fix bugs in smart contract code. By inputting the code and identifying the problem, ChatGPT can generate the necessary fix, reducing the time and effort required to resolve the issue. Several ways in which it can be used are listed below:
It’s important to keep in mind that these are potential use cases and that the actual outcome may vary depending on the specifics of the project and the quality of the data set used to train the model. In addition, it’s important to validate the results generated by the model with programmers.
The future of ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a powerful tool for blockchain developers that can be used to streamline the development process and engage with the community. Whether they are developing smart contracts, tokens or DApps, or conducting a market analysis, ChatGPT can help them save time and effort while increasing the quality of their work. As blockchain technology continues to evolve, the use cases for ChatGPT in this field may also expand.
Thu, 19 Jan 2023 10:00:00 -0600entext/htmlhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/10-ways-blockchain-developers-can-use-chatgptKillexams : The supercloud paradigm: Where do developers fit in?
The developer role is invaluable to the modern enterprise’s digital-focused existence.
As masons of the global digital empire, another challenge has been brought to them: that of aiding in the realization of the supercloud.
“You want to keep them happy; you want to hug your developers,” said Sarbjeet Johal (pictured, left), cloud researcher and consultant. “The key, in the supercloud context,is that developers don’t mind mucking around with platformsor APIs or new languages, but they hate the infrastructure part. They don’t want to muck around with servers, and that’s a fact. They want programmability to the nth degree.”
Johal and Vittorio Viarengo (right), vice president of Cross-Cloud Services at VMware Inc., spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Dave Vellante at theSupercloud2 event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the importance of developer buy-in for the computing cohesion required by the supercloud between disparate environments.(* Disclosure below.)
Where developers and complexity clash
Developers have a part to play in any distributed computing paradigm, but given their working styles, they’ll contribute best only in an environment where complexities are abstracted away from their workflows. Thus, while the developers continue to deliver on one hand, it should mostly be the operations professionals at the helm of the supercloud paradigm, according to Viarengo.
“Now the operators are back in the private cloudtrying to keep the backend system running, and so I think the supercloud is needed, at least initially, for the operatorsto get in front of the developers, fit in the workflow, but also lay the foundationso that it’s secure,” he said.
Developers commonly avoid the friction that comes with methods and tools that go outside of their knowledge base. Therefore, the supercloud must steer clear of proprietary architectures that diverge from what the developers already know, Viarengo added.
“I think we need to help them build an architecture, but it cannot be proprietary,” he said. “It has to be built on what works in the cloud. And so what works in the cloud today is Kubernetes and a number of different open-source projectsthat you need to enable and then provide.”
The role of platform/solutions vendors would be to create frictionless, cross-cloud environments wherein the developers can exercise their muscle memory owing to shared underpinnings across the board. Also, developers across disparate industry verticals aren’t cut from the same mold either and have to work with varying skill sets, approaches, performance parameters and constraints. This further illustrates the need to eliminate “broad stroking” while fabricating the supercloud, according to Johal.
“Developers are different in nature. They are given certain parameters to work with and certain constraints on the budget side,” he explained. “They are educated at different levels as well, so you cannot have the broad stroking of developers. We are talking about a citizen developer these days. On one extreme, that’s citizen developers. On the other is the professional developers.”
Software engineers or developers?
The definitions and differences between software engineering and development have blurred in accurate years — to the point where they’re now used interchangeably. Understanding the nuanced differences between the two concepts, however, is crucial to analyzing how software will evolve as the supercloud takes hold. And the software engineers will have more say in creating the base-level foundations for the supercloud, according to Viarengo.
“I caught up with [tech vet] Adam Bosworthtwo weeks ago in New York, and I asked him, ‘What’s happening to these higher-level developers?’He said that ChatGPT will get to a pointwhere its high-level procedural logicwill be written by computers,” he said. “And so we may not need as many at the high level, but we still need the engineers down there. The point is the operation needs to get in front of them.”
A real-life use case example for supercloud is Robert Bosch GmbH, a global technology powerhouse operating in a litany of product and solutions niches. But with its auto industry offerings, in particular, it has had to tune its infrastructure for uniformity on the customer-facing side while allowing them the flexibility of choice on the backend, Johal explained.
“All of [the customers] don’t want to go to AWS, so they want the choice on the back end.So whatever they [Bosch] cook in the middle has to work,” he said. “They have to sprinkle the data for the data sovereign side, because they have Chinese car makers also, for example.”

The upcoming Minecraft spinoff, Minecraft Legends, is an action-strategy game from Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive. During the Xbox Developer_Direct, we got to see footage of the game’s PvP mode, which pits two teams of up to four players each against each other. It’s clear that players must rely on communication and work together if they want to win.
Arenas are procedurally generated, meaning players will never experience the same place twice. So it’s important to think quickly, adapt to the situation, and combine gathered materials in order to defeat the other team’s base. Of course, players must defend their own base in the process or risk defeat themselves. There are various methods for protecting your team like building defensive structures and powerful weapons.
As part of the presentation, the release date for Minecraft Legends was finally revealed as April 18. 2023. It is currently up for preorder and will launch on all major platforms including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PCs, PS5 and PS4, and Nintendo Switch. If you’d like to learn more about the game, check out our Minecraft Legends ultimate guide.
Forza Motorsport is designed with extremely realistic visuals
Chris Esaki creative director for Turn 10 Studios introduced this segment explaining how the studio has done all it can to make this game look good and feel good too. Damage and dirt buildup is unique to each car as the software works to realistically reflect lighting and create authentic-looking grime.
There are over 500 cars and players will be able to explore five different locations including the Kyalami track in South Africa. Real-time ray tracing and detailed rendering features bring unmatched realism to this game. Forza Motorsport releases sometime in 2023.

Today during the Xbox Developer_Direct,, Zenimax Online Studios explained that the next big update for this MMORPG will be called The Elder Scrolls Online: Shadow Over Morrowind and will be the last part of Legacy of the Bretons. The developers went further on to say that the Shadow Over Morrowind DLC will release for the MMORPG within the next few months.
As long-time Elder Scrolls fans will be excited to note, Shadow Over Morrowind brings players back to locations from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind that haven’t been visited in decades. This big update will start with two new DLC, which includes The Elder Scrolls Online: Scribes of Fate and The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom.
Scribes of Fate: This minor expansion, allows players to explore brand new dungeons within the Scrivener’s Hall and Bal Sunnar in four-player PvE. It launches on Windows PCs on March 13, 2023 and then will come to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PlayStation on March 28, 2023.
Necrom: This next DLC is rather meaty bringing 30+ hours of story-driven content, two large new Morrowind locations to explore, two additional companions, and the brand-new Arcanist class. It releases for Windows PCs on June 5, 2023 with the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PlayStation versions launching on June 20, 2023.
Redfall brings unique characters with different skill trees vampire hunting
Vampires have infested and taken over Redfall, Massachusettes and it's up to players to fight them off. Players can play solo or with up to three others in multiplayer.
The Xbox Developer_Direct gave us a look at some of the various enemy types in Redfall. For instance, Shrouds bring dark mists and can meld into the floor to avoid taking a hit. But apparently destroying vampires angers the "vampire gods" and you'll have to face stronger threats that are sent your way.
A wide range of firearms are available to players and stakes can even be found in the overworld to customize your weapons. Redfall releases on May 2, 2023 and can be purchased on its own or played via Xbox Game Pass.
Excitement on the horizon
Some truly exciting titles are making their way onto Xbox this year and we cannot wait to check them out. Whether you're interested in racing games, FPS titles, strategy games, or open-world adventures this first Xbox Developer_Direct has something for everyone.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Minecraft Legends is a first-party Xbox Game Studios title, and that means it'll be available through Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming from day one. When Minecraft Legends arrives, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be the best way to play it.

Google has released a first Developer Preview of its Android 14 mobile OS, emphasizing tablets and foldables as well as improvements for data transfers and battery life.
The preview was unveiled on February 8. Version 14 builds on work done in Android 12L and 13 to support tablets and foldable form factors. The goal with every release is to make it easier to optimize an app across all Android surfaces, proponents said. To assist with building apps to adapt to different screen sizes, Android’s builders have created sliding pane layout, window size classes, activity embedding, and box with constraints, supported in the Jetpack Compose UI development kit. With Version 14, guidance for large screens has been updated. Also, a preview of a cross-device SDK is featured for building applications to work across different devices and form factors.
Instructions on accessing the Android 14 Developer Preview can be found at developer.android.com. Other features in Android 14 include:
Android APIs for Foreground Services and JobScheduler will add new functionality for user-initiated data transfers and an updated requirement to declare foreground service types.
Optimizations to the internal broadcast system Improve battery life and responsiveness.
The font can be scaled to 200%, up from the previous font size scale on pixel devices of 130%. To mitigate issues with text getting too large, a non-linear font scaling is applied automatically.
To prevent malicious apps from intercepting intents, apps targeting Android 14 are restricted from sending intents internally that do not specify a package.
Dynamic code loading has been made safer, with dynamically loaded files marketed as read-only.
Access to 300 OpenJDK 17 classes is featured.
An overview of APIs and features has been published on developer.android.com. Feedback is welcomed on the developer preview. Platform stability for Android 14 is expected in June, with the final release anticipated around August.
