You may find yourself falling fast for a special someone. Or, maybe you are taking it slow and things are just starting to get serious. Either way, if you want to determine whether or not this person is “the one” for you, there are some questions that you have to be willing to ask them—even if they’re scary—which will help you see if you two can be compatible for the long haul.

According to Laurel House, a relationship expert at eharmony, scary questions are necessary because they illuminate the 3Cs of a relationship: Conversation, clarity and confidence. Through conversation, you can gain clarity about who your partner is and what they need. In turn, this can create more confidence for you in the relationship because you’ll know what you can give.

There are no hard and fast rules to ask the following ten questions of your boo—or vice versa. You can each answer them in the moment, or you can work off a list. Or, you can use these questions as conversation starters, letting the discussion flow and evolve naturally. The key is to lean in to the experience—not only will these thought-provoking prompts help you get to know your boo better, but they can also help you clarify who you are, what you need in a romantic relationship and how you connect best with others. Consider this a win-win!

RELATED: What It Means to Dream About Your Ex

1. What are your priorities in life?

couple women dating in bed hugging

Determine your top priorities for your partner and lifestyle and use that as your north star. Ask your partner outright what their priorities are in life: relationships, friends, family, culture, religion, money, success, home ownership, etc.

Do these align with your priorities? If so, great. If not, House says that as you go through the other questions, keep your eyes, ears, and instincts open to see if your partner’s priorities really do or don’t align with your own. If they don’t, you two may not be compatible for the long haul.

2. What is your purpose for dating right now?

Some people just want to have fun, while others are looking for something serious. It can be scary to ask if someone is looking for marriage and children early on, according to House. However, keep in mind that by asking this question, you aren’t saying “I want to marry you and have your babies right now.” All you are doing is checking that they are on the same relationship trajectory as you are.

On the other hand, if you are just looking for fun, you don’t want to waste anyone’s time if they are looking for something more serious.

3. What is your favorite side of yourself?

When asking a partner to tell you their favorite side of themself, you’ll learn more about them as a person as well as what’s important to them in a romantic partner. If someone’s favorite part of themselves is being adventurous, they are probably looking for a bit of a daredevil who will go on spontaneous trips with them. If you are a homebody by nature, the relationship may not last long.

By paying attention to their answers, you will also find out how to make your bond stronger by determining what activities or subjects will bring out their “favorite” part of themself. On the other hand, you might discover that your partner’s favorite side is one that you don’t like. It’s important to know that too, says House.

4. How do you react when you are feeling weak or scared?

According to House, most people will react with one of the three “Fs” when they are scared or feel weak: Fight (which looks like getting defensive and angry), freeze (which involves shutting down or getting quiet), or flee (which looks like not returning texts or calls or refusing to see you).

Too frequently, a new relationship ends because someone experiences a moment of weakness or fear and their reaction is mistaken by their partner. If you understand how your partner reacts when they are scared or overwhelmed, you will better understand that their response doesn’t mean that they aren’t interested in you. Instead, it might mean that they need a little space or some extra support.

5. What makes you angry, sad, scared or insecure? How do you want your partner to help you through those emotions?

It’s important to understand your partner’s emotional triggers and for them to understand yours. This can help stop you from accidentally triggering an emotional response. It may also help you understand why your partner may react to something in an unexpected way and give you the key to understanding how to help your partner through a tough time.

With this understanding, says House, moments of personal weakness can strengthen your connection and your relationship.

6. In your opinion, what has caused you to have that emotional trigger?

Once you understand what triggers someone, the next question is to ask why. This will help you better understand what they went through and how they became the person they are now.

7. What can you tell me about your last relationship?

couple on couch talking
Shutterstock

It’s understandable to want to ignore your partner’s past dating history, but their dating past can be very revealing. House believes this scary question is important to ask early on in a relationship because it answers three important questions: Where were they, where are they now and where are they going?

You want to find out what attracted your partner to their ex, what their relationship was like, when they noticed there were problems, what they did to try to fix them and why the relationship eventually ended. It’s also important to ask what they did to heal and move on.

When you answer the same question, House says the key is to talk about your ex “in a confidently vulnerable way that isn’t angry, sad, or wistful. Don’t go on and on or it can feel like therapy.” House also advises telling your story in a “U strategy”: start with positivity, drop down into vulnerability, and then end with something positive.

8. What’s a non-starter for you?

Non-starters need to be talked about early—ideally, on the first date, says House. Politics is a non-starter for many people, so that’s a good place to start. Religion is another nonstarter for many. And no one can develop a meaningful relationship if there is a non-starter issue between them.

If political beliefs and preferences are important to you, you need to address them right away. If religious beliefs are a key part of your life and your future, you need to find out if your partner is on the same page right away. “You do not want to waste your time or open your heart to someone who has a belief that you can’t change or ignore,” says House.

9. How would you define our status?

It’s scary to ask for clarity when it comes to your relationship status. Is your boo still dating other people? Have they gotten off the apps? Are the two of you monogamous? Do they consider you their significant other? It’s a mistake to assume you are on the same page.

House says to imagine that you’ve been dating someone for several months, you’ve met their friends, you’re sleeping together, and you’re starting to refer to them as your exclusive partner. They, on the other hand, have no idea that you think they are committed and are still juggling multiple dates a week with other people. This isn’t necessarily because they’re a player or a bad person, says House. The reason is simply that you both never made sure you were on the same page. Clarity and communication are key in order to avoid misunderstandings about where you stand in the relationship.

10. Do you have any regrets or mistakes you’ve made?

Showing your ugly side is an essential step if you want a deep and meaningful relationship, says House. This should be “a heart-opening conversation that can immediately deepen and expand your relationship.” Asking about regrets and mistakes exposes your partner’s humanity.

Follow up by asking what made your partner realize it was a mistake, what they learned from it and how they are different or more evolved because of their missteps. It says a lot about how your partner handles conflict and hardships and how they pull themselves back up from those experiences.

Other questions to ask your boo:

11. What are you like when you are stressed? And how will I know that you’re feeling that way?

12. Was there a time in your life when you were physically or emotionally weak? What happened to put you in that position, and what did you do to get out of it?

13. What makes you feel most safe physically, emotionally and financially? When have and haven’t you felt that way in your past (yes, even in past relationships)?

14. What makes you feel most seen? When have and haven’t you felt that way in your past (yes, even in past relationships)?

15. What makes you feel sexy? When have and haven’t you felt that way in your past (yes, even in past relationships)?

16. What is your love language? What is an example of when you have felt loved?

17. How much personal space do you need?

18. In general, do you like to be spontaneous or are you more of a planner?

19. What would life with you look like on an average day?

20. When it comes to money, how do you prioritize retirement and savings?

21. When it comes to having fun and letting go, what does that mean to you?

22. Are there life goals that you MUST explore and accomplish?

23. How often do you like to have sex?

24. What does your ideal partnership look like?

25. What do you most love about our relationship?

Killexams : 4 Questions to Ask Yourself When You're Anxious

Source: Vladislav Babienko/Unsplash

During times when you feel highly anxious, you may have a sense that it's hard to think clearly. Try asking yourself these four questions to feel clearer, calmer, and less gripped by rumination.

1. Is there more than one good decision here?

When people are anxious, they typically obsess about what the "right" decision is. When people do this, they often overlook that there is more than one good decision available. Many times we are not choosing between a right and a wrong decision or way to proceed. Instead, we're choosing between multiple good decisions. Try to recognize when that is the case to take the pressure off.

For example:

  • Perhaps you're considering whether you should decide now or wait 24 hours to decide. Both of these options could be good decisions.
  • You're deciding whether to take a gap year or go straight to college. Both could be good decisions.
  • You're deciding whether to have another baby or not. Again, both could be good decisions.
  • Should you go on a second date or not?
  • Should you raise a grievance that's been bothering you, or not do that now? Since you can't predict the outcome of either course of action, both are potentially good decisions, and perhaps neither would constitute a terribly bad decision.

2. If what I'm panic about turns out fine, how will I wish I had handled it?

Let's say you're incredibly anxious about a health concern, passing an exam, your child's development, or an issue at work. If in a week, a month, or a year, your worry turns out to be no big deal, how would you wish you had handled yourself while you were experiencing the uncertainty?

Asking yourself this question can help you stay engaged with what's valuable and important to you, even when you're feeling anxious about an uncertain situation. If the situation turns out fine, you're probably going to wish you hadn't become all consumed with worry and ignored everything else that's important to you. For example, if a situation turns out to be no big deal, you'd probably regret it if it caused you to disengage with your loved ones and your friends or resulted in you gaining 20 lbs from overeating.

You can also optionally add the reverse question: "If the situation I'm panic about turns out to be serious or bad, how will I wish I had handled myself during the period in which the outcome or seriousness was unclear?" What's the overlap between your answers? For example, I would probably answer that in both scenarios, I would hope that I kept my bond with my child strong, that I kept exercising, and that I kept trying to produce valuable creative work.

Your answers to these questions can help provide you with a clear compass to follow when you're facing uncertainty you can't immediately resolve.

3. Is my anxiety affecting my decision-making in any negative way?

Many anxious people worry that their anxiety is harming them. However, sometimes the harms people worry about aren't what's most important. For example, you may worry that your physical anxiety is negatively affecting your body.

In my mind, the main mechanism that can cause anxiety to have a negative impact on someone's life is if it results in avoidant coping. For example, you delay seeing a doctor for a health symptom due to anxiety or second-guessing yourself. Or you delay getting a second opinion because you don't want to offend your primary doctor.

Personally, I'm not particularly concerned with reducing my felt experience of anxiety. However, I am concerned with any ways that feeling anxious could make me less proactive and less resourceful in solving problems than I would otherwise be. I would also hope that feeling anxious wouldn't prevent me from speaking up when something seems unjust, unfair, unnecessary, or otherwise wrong. Those are the impacts of anxiety I seek to minimize, not feelings or sensations of anxiety.

4. Is there any harm in allowing myself to take a break from my anxiety? Is there any benefit?

Anxiety can tend to grip us. From an evolutionary perspective, anxiety has evolved to focus our attention on a potential threat in ways that make it difficult to distract ourselves or stop thinking about the risk. Consider this example: If you think you've seen a bear, it's probably not advantageous to be able to easily switch to thinking about something more pleasant and forget about the threat.

If you're not facing off against a bear, in many other situations, temporary distraction can help your well-being and decision-making. For example, I have a pregnancy scan tomorrow. I'm anxious about it. However, the best course of action today isn't to obsess about what it might show. The best course of action today is to engage with other things that are important to me and react to whatever the results are tomorrow. There's no mentally preparing or running through scenarios today that's helpful beyond what I've already done.

Sometimes, the idea of taking a whole day off from overthinking about the source or course of your anxiety will sound too much or too hard. You can try any other option. For example, I will sometimes say, "I'm going to play a game of solitaire on my phone, and allow myself to take a break from thinking about my anxiety for those 2-5 minutes." Or, "I'm going to make a batch of muffins with my kid and take a break from my anxiety for that hour."

Taking a very short break from your anxiety will often allow you to feel safe and capable enough to take a longer break.

--

Next time you're anxious, re-scan this article to see if any of the questions here feel applicable to the situation. give answering them a try and see if they help you. It's not most important whether they lessen your feelings or physical sensations of anxiety, but rather whether they help you sense the way you're handling the situation is more aligned with your values and strengths.

What's your gut instinct now about which of these four questions might be most helpful to you?

Killexams : Course registration

I. Registration for credit and grade allocation on QISPOS

Normally, all our course credits and grades are administered on the online system QISPOS. To enable credit and grade allocation for their courses, students normally need to complete a QISPOS registration for each of their courses. (Please note: This is a separate registration from the course registration on HIS-LSF – the two platforms look very similar, but they still need two separate registrations!). Some types of assignment (e.g. some of the written exams, and certain self-study options) also need a separate registration in addition to the registration for the course they are connected to. Other assignments (e.g. term papers) are already covered by the general registration for the course they are part of. You should be able to infer this from the options that show up on your QISPOS registration interface after log-in. When in doubt, you may also ask your course teacher or the English Department’s Student Advisory Service.

This is how the QIS_POS registration procedure works in detail:

1. Go to the QIS-POS website: https://uvlsf.uni-muenster.de/qisserver/

2. Log on with your central WWU user name & password.

3. Under “Meine Funktionen” (‘My Functions’) click on “An-und Abmeldung zu studien- und prüfungsrelevanten Leistungen

4. Click on the module(s) you’re studying during the term in question.

5. Click on a class/assignment you want to register for.

6. Click on “Prüfung anmelden”.

7. Confirm your choice.

8. Repeat steps 1–7 until ALL the classes / assignments you need to register for during this term show up in the “Leistungsübersicht” (overview) as “angemeldet” (registered).

For information of how failed coursework and registration for second or third attempts is handled on QISPOS, please see point V (“Repetition of failed assignments”) below.

II. New regulations concerning course attendance

Whereas module descriptions previously required regular attendance in seminars and many other courses (monitored via attendance lists), these regulations have changed since the summer semester 2016:
Now, in most courses taught at the English Department regular attendance is no longer mandatory.

The only exceptions (where regular attendance remains mandatory) are:

• In the BA programmes:
       o Integrated Language Skills
       o Spoken English
       o Written Academic English

• In the MA programme “National & Transnational Studies”:
       o “Advanced Language Course”

The reason why these 3 courses are exempt from the new rule is that they are primarily concerned with language practice, for which attendance is particularly important. If a student is absent more than 3 times in those classes, he/she will not obtain any credit for the course, which is thus graded as ‘failed.’

III. Types of assignment: Studienleistungen and Prüfungsleistungen

There are two different types of assignments: Type 1 is known in German as “Studienleistung” (which roughly translates as ‘required coursework’); type 2 is known in German as a “Prüfungsleistung” (which translates as ‘examination’ or ‘assessed coursework’). The main differences are:

A Studienleistung is ungraded; i.e. it is only classed as “pass” or “fail”, without any further distinction between “pass” grade levels (e.g. “very good”, “good”, etc.). Depending on the course, different kinds of coursework can count as a Studienleistung, such as ungraded (pass/fail) written exams, presentations, practicing assignments, etc.

A Prüfungsleistung is graded; i.e. it is not only classed as “pass” or “fail” (grade 5), but there are also different kinds of “pass” grades: a simple “pass” grade (“sufficient”, grade 4), “satisfactory” (grade 3), “good” (grade 2) and “very good” (grade 1). Depending on the course/module, a Prüfungsleistung can be a sit-in written exam, but it can also be a term paper, a shorter essay, a presentation, etc.

For information on what happens if a student fails a Studien- or Prüfungsleistung, please see point V (“Repetition of failed assignments”) below.

IV. Plagiarism

Plagiarized coursework is generally regarded as failed.

V. Repetition of failed assignments

Grades for failed assignments (both Studienleistungen and Prüfungsleistungen) are immediately entered in QISPOS, but it is possible to repeat a failed assignment and change the status to “passed”.

A failed Studienleistung (see point III above) can be repeated up to two times (i.e. three attempts altogether) within the same course. After a failed third attempt, the student can register for a new course of the same course type (e.g. another seminar) and then has another three attempts there.

A failed Prüfungsleistung (see point III above) can also be repeated up to two times (i.e. three attempts altogether), but here there are only three attempts in total, i.e. these can all be done within the same course, or the second/third attempt can be done in a different course of the same type, but after a failed third attempt there are no further attempts, even if the student wishes to choose a new course. Instead, the student can no longer continue on this particular degree programme.

If a student decides to repeat an individual piece of required or assessed coursework (Studienleistung or Prüfungsleistung) (e.g. a term paper), s/he can make individual arrangements for a second or third attempt with the same teacher in the same course; in this case there will be no need to do a separate QISPOS registration for the second/third attempt, but the teacher will simply keep it on file and then, once the new attempt is graded, the teacher will ask the exams office to add the new grade to the student’s QISPOS account.

The procedure is different in cases of sit-in written exams taken by a larger number of students (e.g. in an introductory course or a lecture): here, there will be fixed re-sit dates for all. The registration procedure for these re-sits differs according to course type:

  • In cases where the course(s) and the written test have separate QISPOS registration numbers (e.g. in B.A. introductory courses in literary/cultural studies , linguistics and EFL teaching; and in M.A. 1st-semester module exams), the registration process for the re-sit slots is the same as for the first slot, i.e. students submit a new registration for the re-sit test slot on QISPOS, for which there is a specific registration period. If a student fails a second attempt, s/he may register for a third attempt during the next QISPOS registration period.
  • In cases where there is only a registration number for the course, but no separate registration number for the written exam (e.g. for the old B.A. 2011 in “Integrated Language Skills”, “Classroom Discourse” and in 2nd-year lectures), students only submit a QISPOS registration for the course, during the usual registration period. If they then fail the test during the first slot and need to re-sit, or wish to postpone their first attempt to the re-sit slot, they should maintain their existing QISPOS registration for the course, while using a different communication channel to request a place in the re-sit slot:
If the test is a “Studienleistung” (required but ungraded coursework, as in the BA 2011 second-year lectures), you only need to tell the lecturer (e.g. by e-mail).
If the test is a “Prüfungsleistung” (assessed / graded coursework, as in the BA 2011 courses “Integrated Language Skills” and “Classroom Discourse”), you tell three people: your lecturer, the English Department’s test administrator Ms Hötker-Bolte, and your contact person at the WWU’s interdepartmental exams office (Prüfungsamt I). They will then keep your registration open until you have participated in the re-sit slot and until the lecturer has graded your exam; the lecturer will tell the result to the exams office, who will then enter your grade on QISPOS.

If a Studienleistung or Prüfungsleistung is failed due to plagiarism, it is not possible to repeat it in the same course. Instead, the student must start afresh in another course of the same course type (e.g. if it was a seminar, do another seminar).

If a student passes the Studienleistung or Prüfungsleistung in a second or third attempt, the new grade will be added to the student’s QISPOS account, and the status of the course/module will be changed from “failed” to “passed”.

An INK-redible way to cheat! Spanish law student etched answers to test questions onto his pens

  • University of Malaga revealed the pens confiscated during a law exam
  • The student had etched answers to the Criminal Procedural Law test on biros
  • The ruse was exposed and the pens were seized but many praised the audacity

A mischievous Spanish law student went to extreme lengths to cheat on his exams by etching answers on to his pens, his teacher has revealed.

Yolanda de Lucchi, a professor at the University of Malaga, showed the pens she and her colleagues confiscated during the test.

She displayed the 11 pens, each with tiny writing etched across the plastic body of the blue biros, in a post on Twitter.

A mischievous Spanish law student went to extreme lengths to cheat on his exams by etching answers on to his pens, his teacher has revealed

Ms De Lucchi said the pens were confiscated during an test on Criminal Procedural Law.

The crafty student was exposed a number of years back but the teacher rediscovered the offending items while cleaning out her drawer.

She posted on Twitter: 'The criminal procedural law in BIC pens. What art!

'Cheat sheets aren't like they used to be.'

A close-up of the pens shows the incredible detail of the ruse, with tiny letters filling every available space.

One Twitter user who replied to the teacher claimed to be a friend of the cheating student.

Gonzo said: 'Hello Yolanda. I know the author of that wonderful work perfectly. In fact, he has authorized me, ignoring his name, logically, to show you some more that he still keeps at home.

'The technique used by the artist, as he himself tells me, was to replace the graphite lead of a mechanical pencil with a needle, which made it super easy for him to etch the pen.'

Gonzo then showed off a number of photos of the biros modified over the years.

De Lucchi said: 'That could not happen today.

'Now students would not make an effort to have such a detailed cheat sheet for an exam.

'They live at the click of a button, by what happens instantly; that is impossible to see today.'
